Canyon Pass Modern House

Architect Marc Solloway designed this custom home that then needed a landscape renovation worthy of the project! Privacy was very important for the owners of this beautiful home, as was adhering to the ethics of low water and sustainability, which have the ancillary benefit of low maintenance. We elevated the landscape using specimen succulents in key locations, opening up spectacular views of the golf course that had been formerly blocked, and screening views of the road for privacy and profound sound abatement. Color and texture proliferate year around in this garden. Hummingbirds and butterflies visit a well-placed shade tree with a blooming understory. This particular tree gives soft light to a large kitchen window that was formerly too hot with glaring light at particular times of the year.

An existing (unsightly) water feature was naturalized for fabulous effect when coming in the front door and looking through floor-to-ceiling windows. We redesigned utilizing much nicer and larger native boulder material from on site, placed carefully during installation for a naturalistic effect. Working with plan in hand but hand-placing native plants on plant-set day, such as Ocotillo, Desert Spoon, Saguaro and Chuparosa allowing for the best final visual appeal. Golden barrels, Moroccan Mound and Desert Milkweed add low care variety to the garden.

This is now an award-winning project!
